Closed Executive Session: Cyber Security Update - Current Cyber Threat Landscape And Security Measures Taken By Information Technology
end
PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Hold a closed executive session to receive cyber security training and briefing.
SUMMARY
Cyber security refers to how individuals and organizations reduce the risk of cyber-attack. Its core function is to protect the devices we all use and the services we access, both online and at work, from theft or damage. It's also about protecting the vast amounts of data we access from cyber-attacks or compromise, which could disrupt businesses and cause financial loss or reputational damage.
Cyber security is crucial to safeguarding the County's operational resilience to ensure that we can continue to function during an incident. When it's done well, cyber security can be an enabler of positive change within our organization, rather than simply being the reaction to a breach.
A cyber security expert from the County's insurance brokerage firm, Gallagher and an IT security leader from Dakota County IT, will present a briefing on the current cyber breach landscape, what it means for the County to be insured for a cyber incident and what efforts Dakota County IT is taking to enhance the County's cyber security, focusing on preventing hackers from penetrating our IT systems, and cyber resilience, focusing on our ability to protect ourselves from, detect and respond and recover from a cyber-attack.
