PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Receive an update and information on History Interpretative Loop Pilot Project.
SUMMARY
The 2024 Capital Improvement Program includes funding to develop an interpretative history trail loop pilot project. The proposed pilot project would link 23 interpretive stories within West St. Paul, South St. Paul, and Inver Grove Heights connecting places of local history and significant events. The proposed route follows 16 miles of County trails and 7 miles of city trails. The project would consist of two phases with the first phase focused on stakeholder engagement, research, draft sign content and design. Phase one is estimated at $75,000, Dakota County would partner with Dakota County Historical Society to lead phase one deliverables.
Phase two would include final design, cost estimates, sign construction and installation. Funding for phase two is not currently identified but would likely be competitive for Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants and other sources.
