BACKGROUND
To enrich lives by providing high-quality recreation and education opportunities in harmony with natural resource preservation and stewardship, Dakota County Parks is proceeding with the Minnesota River Greenway - Fort Snelling segment project.
The Minnesota River Greenway - Fort Snelling Segment is a new 3.7-mile regional trail corridor between the Cedar Nicols Trailhead and the Lone Oak Trailhead located parallel to the Minnesota River in Burnsville and Eagan, including a bridge to cross over railroad owned by Union Pacific and multiple boardwalks (Attachment: Project Map).
Dakota County received State of Minnesota-appropriated funding in state fiscal year 2024 in the amount of $5,000,000. The funding is administered by the Metropolitan Council via State Grant (SG) number SG24P6-04-01. The grant agreement includes a General Fund Financed Declaration that imposes certain restrictions on the improved real property, such that the land cannot be sold or significantly altered for 37.5 years.
