PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Proclaim the week of May 6-12, 2025, as National Nurses Week in Dakota County.
SUMMARY
Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 375A.04, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners is, and performs the duties and exercises the powers of, a community health board under Minn. Stat. Ch. 145A, including the responsibility to prevent disease and to promote and protect the public health of Dakota County residents.
Every year from May 6-12, nurses are recognized for their service and dedication to caring for and improving the health of others nationwide through National Nurses Week. Nurses Week celebrates and honors the unwavering commitment nurses make to their patients/clients, their communities, and our health care system. This year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses,” highlights the invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide.
Nurses play a vital role in the health and well-being of Dakota County residents at an individual and community level. They assess, develop, and deliver appropriate plans of care, monitor conditions and respond to emergencies, educate, collaborate, and advocate for policy to improve health for all. Dakota County employs over 60 nurses who work across the Community Services Division in a variety of programs and units, including Administration, Community Living Services, Disease Prevention and Control, Emergency Preparedness, Family Health, Parent Support Outreach, and School Health. Their work helps keep our community healthy, safe, and thriving. Dakota County nurses make a difference.
OUTCOMES
In 2024, Dakota County Public Health Nurses:
• Provided 9,251 visits to community members.
• Served 555 families through the Follow Along Program.
• Administered 4,445 immunizations to our community.
• Processed over 2,000 referrals for Public Health Services.
• Served over 1,000 individuals seeking services for aging and disability needs.
RECOMMENDATION

To honor and recognize nurses for their service and dedication to caring for and improving the health of our Dakota County residents, staff recommends that the Dakota County Board of Commissioners recognizes National Nurses Week in Dakota County, May 6-12, 2025.
