PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Authorize the purchase of new survey equipment through the 2024 State Contract.
SUMMARY
The County utilizes surveying equipment to provide surveying positioning solutions for a variety of Dakota County projects and applications, including construction projects, roadway design, greenway trail projects, section corner maintenance, boundary surveys, and other surveying projects throughout the County. The survey equipment is on a five-year replacement schedule to take advantage of new technologies to improve efficiencies and provides good replacement values of the existing survey equipment for trade-in. The last survey equipment purchase was in 2019. The new survey equipment will support delivery of the Transportation Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the next five years.
This survey equipment was included as part of the approved 2024 Budget for a Capital Equipment Program (CEP). The survey equipment breakdown includes 25 units (five total stations, ten GPS units, and ten controllers). Construction surveying includes 19 units and the remaining six units for the Survey Office. The total cost for the surveying equipment after trade-in values is $384,049. As per the CEP request, the survey equipment units will be funded by State Aid ($252,888) and the Transportation Fund Balance ($131,161). WHEREAS, the County uses surveying equipment to provide surveying services to County projects, including delivery of the Transportation Capital Improvement Program (CIP) along with maintaining the County’s section corners; and
WHEREAS, survey equipment is on a five-year replacement schedule; and
WHEREAS, the last purchase of surveying equipment was in 2019; and
WHEREAS, the new survey equipment purchase includes 25 units (five total stations; ten GPS units, and ten controllers; and
WHEREAS, the survey equipment was included as part of the approved 2024 Budget for a Capital Equipment Program (CEP); and
WHEREAS, the total cost of the new survey equipment after trade-in values is $384,049, which includes funding of State Aid ($252,888) and the Transportation Fund Balance ($131,161); and
WHEREAS, the survey equipment will be purchased through State Contract No.171661, Release No. S-934(5) through Frontier Precision, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends authorization to purchase 25 survey equipment units and accessories for $384,049.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby authorizes the Physical Development Director to purchase 25 survey equipment units in the amount of $384,049 through the State Contract.
