PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Establish County Canvassing Board Meetings to certify 2024 Presidential Nomination Primary and State Primary and appoint commissioners to serve on the Canvassing Board.
SUMMARY
The Presidential Nomination Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, and the State Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Minn. Stat. § 204C.31 requires that the county convene a canvassing board to certify the results after the election. The canvassing board is to be made up of the county auditor, the court administrator of the district court in that county (or designee), the mayor of the county’s most populous city (or designee), and two Board members (or designees) who are not candidates for election.
Minn. Stat. § 204C.32 requires that the Presidential Nomination Primary and State Primary canvass must take place on the second or third day following the primary.
To allow for maximum participation among Commissioners who are not candidates for election in 2024, it is requested that Commissioners Halverson and Holberg serve on the Canvassing Board for the Presidential Nomination Primary Election and Commissioners Atkins and Slavik serve on the Canvassing Board for the State Primary Election. The schedule and appointments for the Canvassing Board Meeting for the State General Election as well as scheduling the Post Election Review will be determined later in the year.

WHEREAS, the State Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Minn. Stat. § 204C.31 requires that the county convene a canvassing board to certify the results after each election; and
WHEREAS, Minn. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That Commissioners Halverson and Holberg (or designees) serve on the Canvassing Board for the Presidential Nomination Primary Election; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Commissioners Atkins and Slavik (or designees) serve on the Canvassing Board for the State Primary Election; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby schedules the County Canvassing Board meeting for the Presidential Nomination Primary Election on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the County Administration Center in Hastings; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby schedules the County Canvassing Board meeting for the State Primary Election on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the County Administration Center in Hastings.
