PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED

Reappoint individuals to the Disability Advisory Council.

 

SUMMARY

By Resolution No. 24-038 (January 23, 2024) the Dakota County Board of Commissioners authorized the formation of a County Board-appointed Disability Advisory Council. The Disability Advisory Council offers individuals, parents, families, businesses, and community service providers the opportunity to make a difference in how disability access and services are provided in their community. The council is a group of stakeholders who actively develop and work for a community that welcomes and integrates people with disabilities into all aspects of living, working, and thriving in Dakota County.

Membership: A minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 members, including people representing the following categories:

                     members with disabilities and self-advocates

                     family members or guardians

                     representatives from organizations supporting people with disabilities

                     local business representatives

                     education representatives

                     housing representative​

Meetings: A minimum of six times a year, specific schedule to be determined

Location: Dakota County Western Service Center and online

Term: Members shall be appointed for two-year terms

Term Limit: Members shall serve no more than three consecutive terms

Staff recommends the Board reappoints interested individuals who currently serve on the Disability Advisory Council and meet criteria of living or working in Dakota County.

WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 24-038 (January 23, 2024) the Dakota County Board of Commissioners authorized the formation of a County Board appointed Disability Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, the Disability Advisory Council offers individuals, parents, families, businesses, and community service providers the opportunity to make a difference in how disability access and services are provided in their community; and

WHEREAS, the council is a group of stakeholders who actively develop and work for a community that welcomes and integrates people with disabilities into all aspects of living, working, and thriving in Dakota County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby reappoints the following individuals to the Disability Advisory Council to fill two-year terms ending June 30, 2028:

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Sheila Hawthorne

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Amy Hunting

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: David Shaw

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Linda Bailey

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Sumukha Terakanambi

Family Member or Guardian: Ali Niemi
