PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED

Authorize execution of a joint powers agreement (JPA) between the City of Eagan and Dakota County for the administration and distribution of Violent Crime Enforcement Teams (VCET) Grant awarded to the Dakota County Drug Task Force (DCDTF).

SUMMARY

The DCDTF is established by a 2001 JPA entered into by the Cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Hastings, Inver Grove Heights, Lakeville, Mendota Heights, Rosemount, South St. Paul, West St. Paul, Savage and the County pursuant to Minn. Stat. §471.59. The City of Eagan (City) serves as the fiscal agent for the DCDTF and receives the State VCET grant funds on behalf of the DCDTF. The DCDTF annually assigns $40,000 of the VCET grant funds received for a dedicated gang investigator. The Sheriff’s Office currently dedicates one investigator to the DCDTF for the purpose of gang investigation. The Sheriff’s Office and DCDTF, through the City of Eagan as its fiscal agent, desire to execute an agreement to account for the VCET grant funds for 2022-2023.
