Authorization To Execute Contract With Oldcastle Infrastructure, Inc. For Box Culvert For Roundabout At Intersection Of County State Aid Highway 46 And County State Aid Highway 85 In Nininger And Vermillion Townships, County Project 46-057
end
PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Authorize the use of budgeted project funds to purchase a concrete box culvert for County Project (CP) 46-057 in Nininger and Vermillion Townships.
SUMMARY
To provide a safe and efficient transportation system, Dakota County is proceeding with CP 46-057 (Attachment: Location Map), which consists of installing a roundabout at the intersection of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 46 (160th Street East) and CSAH 85 (Goodwin Ave). The intersection of CSAH 46 and CSAH 85 exists today as a two-way stop-controlled intersection and has a crash and severity rate that exceeds the typical statewide average. Construction is scheduled for 2024.
The project is scheduled to receive bids from construction contractors in May of 2024, with construction beginning in July of 2024. Included in the project is a concrete box culvert for conveying drainage. The lead time on material ordering for concrete box culverts can be 4-6 months and there is a high likelihood that a concrete box culvert needed for the project will not be manufactured in time if ordered with the overall construction contract. To ensure the project can be constructed to completion in the 2024 season, it is necessary for the County to make the purchase of the box culvert in advance the project is awarded.
The County has solicited quotes from three regional manufacturers of box culverts:
Oldcastle Infrastructure, Inc. $109,463.72
Wieser Concrete Products, Inc. $110,780.00
Rinker Materials $112,434.00
The lowest price quoted is provided by Oldcastle Infrastructure, Inc. in the amount of $109,463.72. Staff has reviewed the quotes and determined the quote was competitive.
