PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Discuss the intersection evaluation completed for the intersection of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 50 and Hamburg Avenue in the City of Lakeville and consider amending the 2024 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to include a roundabout project along with cost-sharing responsibilities.
SUMMARY
An Intersection Control Evaluation was conducted for the intersection of CSAH 50 and Hamburg Avenue based on crash patterns and increasing traffic demands due to development in the area. The study reviewed existing conditions, traffic volumes, and alternatives. A roundabout was identified as the appropriate traffic control measure to preserve safety and mobility now and into the future. Staff will provide an overview of the evaluation and recommendation.
The 2024-2028 CIP does not include a project for a roundabout at the Hamburg Avenue and CSAH 50 intersection. Staff is seeking direction from the County Board to amend the 2024-2028 CIP to add a roundabout project for engineering in 2024, right of way in 2025, and construction in 2026. Discussion on the cost share for the project is also needed to determine the appropriate level of local funding since CSAH 50 was recently reconstructed.
