RESOLUTION

body

WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 24-038 (January 23, 2024), the Dakota County Board of Commissioners authorized the formation of a County Board-appointed Disability Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, the Disability Advisory Council offers individuals, parents, families, businesses, and community service providers the opportunity to make a difference in how disability access and services are provided in their community; and

WHEREAS, the council is a group of stakeholders who actively develop and work for a community that welcomes and integrates people with disabilities into all aspects of living, working, and thriving in Dakota County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota Board of Commissioners hereby reappoints the following individuals to the Disability Advisory Council to fill a special one-year term ending September 1, 2027:

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Millicent Aimehinor

Members with disabilities and self-advocates: Anna Voight

BACKGROUND

The Disability Advisory Council bylaws require the Council to consist of 15 to 25 members representing the following categories:

                     members with disabilities and self-advocates

                     family members or guardians

representatives from organizations supporting people with disabilities

                     local business representatives

                     education representatives

                     housing representative

A majority of the Council’s membership must consist of individuals with disabilities and self-advocates. The recommended appointees submitted applications and meet the membership requirements established in the Council’s bylaws.

Council members are generally appointed to two-year terms. To establish staggered appointment cycles and avoid having all member terms expire in the same year, the new members are recommended for one-year special terms. Future appointments to those seats will return to the standard two-year term, supporting continuity and reducing the potential for significant turnover at one time.
