PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Authorize the Sheriff to execute a contract amendment with Summit Food Service for food service to the Dakota County Jail and Juvenile Services Center.
SUMMARY
The Dakota County Sheriff is charged with operating a 263-bed jail facility, which includes providing food service for its inmates. In effort to provide efficient services, the Sheriff has worked with Dakota County Community Corrections to coordinate the services with the Juvenile Services Center as well.
The Sheriff currently contracts with Summit Food Service to provide these services.
In 2021, the Sheriff received authorization to execute a contract with Summit Food Service for the period of January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022. This included an updated meal price matrix, which varied between $1.877 and $2.633 per meal, depending on inmate population, for three meals per day. There was no increase to the Sheriff's budget in 2022 related to food service.
The approved contract with Summit Food Service for the period of January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022 included a not to exceed amount of $474,863.10. The total expenditures for meals at the Jail and Juvenile Services Center through August 2022 is $408,257.53, leaving a remaining balance in the contract maximum of $66,605.57. The increase to the original not to exceed amount is due to prior projections based upon a lower average daily population.
The Sheriff is requesting a contract amendment to the not to exceed totals from $474,863.10 to $675,000 for the current 2022 contract.
