WHEREAS, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners rededicated the Rich Valley Greenway as the Veterans Memorial Greenway in 2019 to honor and express gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by veterans in Dakota County By Resolution No. 19-678, (August 20, 2019); and
WHEREAS, final design engineering and development of an Interpretive Memorial Plan for the Veterans Memorial Greenway commenced in late 2020; and
WHEREAS, outreach to veterans created the foundation for interpretive memorial design with veteran focus group meetings and a Veterans Advisory Group participating in eight meetings to discuss storylines, preferred memorial locations, and memorial design; and
WHEREAS, design concepts for ten memorials were presented to the Physical Development Committee at its January 11, 2022 meeting with no requested changes to the concepts; and
WHEREAS, a draft of the Veterans Memorial Greenway Interpretive Memorial Plan has been completed for Board consideration for public review.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby authorizes release of the draft Veterans Memorial Greenway Interpretive Memorial Plan for public review and comment, from May 24 to July 8, 2022.
