BACKGROUND

The Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board’s (WDB) mission is “to lead, collaborate and provide linkages that facilitate workforce planning and support economic development, providing individuals, families, employers and the community opportunities to transform lives through optimal employment.” See Attachment: Workforce Development Board Overview, for more information about the WDB.

 

Representatives from the WDB’s executive committee will update the Dakota County Board on items including the plan of work services to youth and adults, program innovations, key labor force statistics, and accomplishments and challenges over the past year.

 

Some workforce board-related items of note:

 

                     Hosted a virtual webinar on Artificial Intelligence for employers with 95 attendees.

                     Teen job fair at Western Service Center in Apple Valley had more than 1,400 attendees.

                     Plans in place for a school counselor event in 2027.

                     Partner with area Chambers of Commerce and convene periodic meetings with South of the River Chambers of Commerce, Dakota County Technical College / Inver Hills Community College, and Scott and Dakota County Community Development Agencies.

                     Annual awards celebration recognized numerous area employers, individuals and organizations for exemplary work.

                     Held numerous, scintillating “Eye on the Future” presentations/topics at monthly board meetings.
