WHEREAS, veteran treatment courts provide interventions and probation supervision to Veterans who are at high risk for continued involvement in the criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, Dakota County joined with Carver County in 2021 in creating The Carver Dakota Veteran Treatment Court (CDVTC); and
WHEREAS, the CDVTC uses a hybrid court process with court hearings held in Hastings, Chaska, and via Zoom; and
WHEREAS, Dakota County, Carver County, Scott County, and First Judicial District Court have completed discussions on creating one Veteran Treatment Court with two court locations: Dakota County will host one of the courts at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley and the other location will rotate between Scott and Carver County; and
WHEREAS, to successfully implement the Dakota County Veteran Treatment Court, staff is requesting authorization to add 3.0 FTE for a Veteran Treatment Court Coordinator, Veteran Court Probation Officer, and Veteran Court Mentor Coordinator.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby authorizes the Community Services Director to add 3.0 full-time equivalent for a Veteran Treatment Court Coordinator, Veteran Court Probation Officer, and Veteran Court Mentor Coordinator to support The Carver Dakota Veteran Treatment Court; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby amends the 2024 Community Corrections Budget as follows:
