WHERAS, the Dakota County Law Library provides a unique and important service in Hastings and Apple Valley to the residents of Dakota County; and
WHEREAS, funding is generated by collecting a fee from filings associated with court cases; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 134A.10 subd. 4, the Dakota County Commissioners must approve law library fee amounts set by the Law Library Board; and
WHEREAS, the amount of revenue raised through court fees has generally declined over the last decade while the costs associated with operating the law library have generally increased; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 96-218 (April 2, 1996), the criminal filing fee was increased from $0.00 to $5.00 and by Resolution No. 17-145 (March 21, 2017), the civil and conciliation court filing fee was increased from $10.00 to $12.00; and
WHEREAS, the Dakota County Law Library Board of Trustees voted to increase the criminal court filing fee from $5.00 to $15.00, and the civil and conciliation court filing fee from $12.00 to $15.00, effective July, 1, 2024.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Dakota County Board of Commissioners hereby approve the increase of the civil and conciliation court filing fee from $12.00 to $15.00 and criminal court filing fee from $5.00 to $15.00 by the Law Library Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2024.
