Report On Authorized Write-Off Of Uncollectible Debt For 2021
end
PURPOSE/ACTION REQUESTED
Receive a report on the accounts receivable uncollectible debt that were authorized for write-off in 2021.
SUMMARY
Policy #2755 was adopted in March 2021. This policy establishes justification category to record an uncollectible debt write-off. The policy also authorizes specific staff levels to approve uncollectible debt write-offs in the previous year. Fiscal year 2021 transactions closed (pending audit) in March of 2022.
The County's accounts receivable is comprised from three different financial systems (or system of record). Those financial systems are in Finance, Library, and Sheriff's Office. In 2021 the County authorized and executed 493,984 individual uncollectible debt write-offs totaling $3,722,830.64. Since the policy was recently adopted, 2021 is the first year in which uncollectible debt write-offs could be authorized. Write-offs included in these numbers date back to as far as 2010. Subsequent years should be much lower than 2021 numbers.
The attached report contains more detail and charts summarizing the authorized write-offs for 2021.
